Three Ironies in Palestine

The Electronic Intifada put up 3 ironies regarding situation in Palestine:

The first irony of the situation is that the Palestinians practiced a form of democracy under occupation – possibly the first in world history.
Secondly, Fatah, Yaser Arafat’s party, led itself, under Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to a self-made defeat. President Abbas, steamrolled Palestinians through a process that brought about his own party’s downfall.
The third irony of the times is that Israel’s strategy of ‘Unilateral Disengagement’ from Gaza failed and thus contributed to bringing Hamas to power.
