Skype’s text messaging has been compromised in China. Although apparently the problem is limited within China, this incident showed us that you cannot trust anyone even to those who already made public promised.

NYTimes have an article which discussed about professional network on social networking sites.
And remember the other social-networking sites. If LinkedIn is the Chamber of Commerce luncheon, then Facebook is the after-hours party (and MySpace is the all-night rave, which may make trolling for business connections there a bit trying). “Facebook seems a more natural way of communicating,” said Debra Aho Williamson, senior analyst for eMarketer in Seattle. “LinkedIn seems more formal.”
But the social ease of Facebook makes it easy to look frivolous, all of the experts warned. If you tend to overshare, people in your network will quickly learn about the breakup of your marriage or your love of Jell-O shots. (Facebook now offers fine-tuned privacy settings, on the upper right side of the home page.) So perhaps the best tip of all for online social networking would be: Keep the social separate from the networking.

Ada tulisan menarik di blog resmi AOSI (Asosiasi Open Source Indonesia) berjudul “Tak Kenal Open Source, maka Tak Sayang”. Isinya artikel sekilas menarik perhatian, tapi ada fakta yang bisa menyesatkan, yang ditaruh di bagian atas. Saya kutip disini “Open Source Software (OSS) pada intinya terdiri dari Software Operating System Linux …”.
OSS bukan hanya Linux, tapi justru jauh lebih banyak lagi seperti BSD varian (OpenBSD, FreeBSD, dll) dan GNU/Hurd. Linux juga bukan operating system, tetapi kernel. Justru kalau mau disebut operating system, nama yang tepat (dan juga untuk menghormati pembuatnya) adalah GNU/Linux karena tanpa alat2 yang disediakan oleh GNU (GNU not Unix), maka kernel saja tidak akan ada manfaatnya.
Tapi repotnya memang, menjelaskan hal yang sebenarnya tanpa membuat pusing dan sulit pendengar

Computer Science basically is a teoritical science, compared to computer engineering. As computer expand to color everyone’s life, the talk of ethics is an endless talk. Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google talk about good, evil and monopoly fears in Reuters news
“We don’t have an ‘Evilmeter’ we can sort of apply — you know — what is good and what is evil,” Schmidt said before an audience of media industry professionals at an event sponsored by Syracuse University’s Newhouse School in San Francisco. “We don’t yet know how we are going to make significant amounts of money on YouTube,” Schmidt said. “But it seems obvious that we should be able to make some money from this.” His optimism is based on two key facts: “We know people are watching it” and “We have the luxury of time to invest.”
And this is a more interesting part:
Schmidt reaffirmed that the company’s primary goal is not to make money selling ads, whether it is banner ads or ads on Web searches, online video, TV and mobile phones. “The goal of the company is not to monetize everything, the goal is to change the world … We don’t start from monetization. We start from the perspective of what problems do we have,” he said, referring to big, world-class problems. “You have to resolve in your mind the fact that there is competition and collaboration in mature industries.”
